Dear Central Church Members & Friends,
Our sisters and brothers from Temple Ahavas Achim have invited us to stand with them on Saturday, October 14 at 6:00 p.m. in Market Square, Newburyport, in a gathering for healing, comfort, and peace. The violence in Israel and Gaza has been shocking beyond our comprehension. The situation is so full of pain and grief for so many people. The temptation to pick sides is so great. Yet many of us know people in both communities affected by the violence, and there are many complex points of view about the conflict. Sadly, those diverse perspectives can add to the divisiveness in our own communities. But it need not be that way.
I believe that we, as people of faith, can recognize and honor different perspectives, even in a time of crisis, and that we can come together to support friends and neighbors in a time of grief and need. Together, I believe we can learn the things that make for peace for all people.
