The Rev. Dr. Christopher Ney, pastor

Pastor's Preview

Dear Friends,

Is God’s law timeless and unchanging? Does God change or does our understanding of God’s law change over time and even during the course of our lifetimes? These are longstanding (and challenging) questions. Our scripture readings on Sunday invite us to take a deep dive, so I hope you’ll join us for worship on Sunday, September 1 at 9:30 a.m. as I reflect on these questions in conversation with scripture in a sermon that I’m calling, “Ordinary Hands and Holy Hands.”

Grace and peace,

Chris

MUSIC NOTES FROM MICHAEL HAMILL

Please welcome Evan Ney to our service this morning! Evan is a passionate saxophonist, educator and composer who recently graduated from Lawrence University. He has won awards for both his classical and jazz playing and is attending the University of Oregon for his Masters in saxophone performance in the fall.

SUMMER HYMN RAFFLE

Starting in July, we will choose the middle hymn by pulling a card from a basket, like a raffle. Each card will contain the name of one hymn suggested by members of the congregation. Through the summer, you are invited to pick up an index card, print the name of a hymn with the hymnal title and hymn number, and drop it in the basket for a chance that your suggestion will be drawn.

SUNDAY SCHOOL & YOUTH GROUP

Sunday School will resume in September offering Godly Play for ages 4-12, and Grapple for middle school students! Our Sunday School program needs at least one more teacher to ensure adequate coverage if you, or someone you know, is interested in helping. Registration for Sunday School and for Confirmation class is open. For more information, please contact info@centralnewburyport.org or call the church office at 978-465-0533.
