In a recent sermon, I invited the congregation of Central Church to consider memorizing scripture as a way of growing in our faith. I suggested that memorizing scripture provides us with spiritual resources in times of need. It is also a way that God offers a home for us as we make room in our hearts for God’s sacred scripture words. I encourage you to consider this invitation and want to offer a variety of passages that you might choose to memorize. One of the best ways is simply to repeat the words once or twice a day every day until you have learned them.

Here are some favorite texts to consider committing to memory:

Psalm 23

Psalm 46

Psalm 100

Matthew 5:1-12

Mark 12:30-31

Luke 6:27-31

John 13:34-35

Romans 8:38-39

I Corinthians 13:4-12

Of course, there are many other possibilities. Are there verses you have memorized already? Are there favorite verses that aren’t listed? Let me know. I’d love to hear about your experiences with scripture.

Peace,

Chris
